Law enforcement agencies in the District said a man died late Saturday night after his car crashed into one of the barricades surrounding the White House.

Metropolitan Police said the driver was killed just before 10:30 p.m. after his vehicle slammed into a security barrier near the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest.

“Security protocols were implemented as officers cleared the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the driver who was discovered deceased,” U.S. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. “There was no threat to the White House.”

Mr. Guglielmi said MPD will handle the crash investigation,

The Secret Service will conduct its own investigation into the incident as well.
