The Houston Texans said wide receiver Tank Dell was shot and wounded early Sunday when gunfire broke out near a Central Florida nightclub.
The team said Dell “sustained a minor wound” when a gunman fired on a crowd of people early Sunday outside a club in Sanford.
The Texans said the 24-year-old receiver was released from the hospital later Sunday and was “in good spirits.”
“We are in contact with him and his family and will provide more updates when appropriate but we ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this incident,” the team said.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting stemmed from a melee outside of the Cabana Live nightclub, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Orlando NBC affiliate WESH.
Authorities said a 16-year-old suspect, who wasn’t involved in the fight, opened fire on the brawl and wounded 10 people. All the victims are expected to survive.
A security guard stopped the carnage by tackling the shooter moments after shots rang out, according to police.
The sheriff’s office said the teen gunman was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, as well as multiple other firearms offenses.
Dell was one of many bright spots on the Texans’ breakout season in 2023. He racked up more than 700 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games before a fractured fibula ended his season in December.
