President Biden on Friday said he’ll debate former President Trump ahead of the November election, but didn’t offer specifics about when or where.
In an interview with radio host Howard Stern, Mr. Biden said he wants to personally face off against Mr. Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee.
“I am. Somewhere. I don’t know when, but I am happy to debate him,” the president told the shock jock.
Mr. Biden’s campaign has refused to confirm whether he would debate Mr. Trump.
The Republican National Committee welcomed Mr. Biden’s newfound desire to debate.
“Biden’s handlers must be furious. His staffers have gone to great lengths in recent months to dodge the debate question — likely due to Biden’s clear cognitive decline and inability to form coherent sentences,” RNC Rapid Response Director Jake Schneider said in a statement.
In a series of media appearances, Mr. Trump has urged the president to debate him.
“Oh will I look forward to that,” Mr. Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in December. “How about 10 debates?”
Mr. Trump avoided all of the GOP primary debates because of his big lead in the polls.
Quentin Fulks, Mr. Biden’s principal deputy campaign manager, told reporters in December that the president is focused on campaigning, not debating.
