Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said allies of former President Donald Trump approached him about joining the Republican bid for the White House as Mr. Trump’s running mate.
“President Trump calls me an ultra-left radical. I’m soooo liberal that his emissaries asked me to be his VP. I respectfully declined the offer,” Mr. Kennedy wrote in an X post on Monday. “I am against President Trump, and President Biden can’t win. Judging by his new website, it looks like President Trump knows who actually can beat him.”
Mr. Kennedy’s post comes after the former president has ramped up his attacks on Mr. Kennedy, calling him “the most radical liberal” candidate.
In his post, Mr. Kennedy was referring to a website launched Monday by Make America Great Again Inc., a pro-Trump political action committee, that focuses on Mr. Kennedy’s stance on issues. The website, radicalf-ingkennedy.com, calls him a “radical liberal.”
It links different X posts and news reports showing what Mr. Kennedy has said on issues such as taxes, guns, the climate, voter identification laws and more.
Trump adviser Chris LaCivita disputed Mr. Kennedy’s claim Monday, calling him a “leftie loonie that would never be approached to be on the ticket … sorry!”
Mr. Kennedy first mentioned that the former president’s team had approached him to be on the ticket in January, which Mr. LaCivita pushed back on then, calling it “100% FAKE NEWS.”
