BALTIMORE (AP) - Police in Baltimore on Tuesday said a teenager arrested a day earlier at a high school while in possession of a loaded gun has been charged in a woman’s shooting.
Police said the 16-year-old boy remains in custody on a first-degree attempted murder charge stemming from the Feb. 17 shooting of the woman, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police did not release her name or condition.
The teenager was arrested at Patterson High School after a brief struggle with two unarmed school police officers. Sgt. Clyde Boatwright, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Baltimore School Police Lodge 5, on Monday said the minor is a student enrolled in Baltimore City Public Schools.
Baltimore Police released the student’s name but The Associated Press is not publishing it because he is a minor.
“No one was injured in the brief struggle,” Boatwright said, according to WBAL-TV. He added that officers found the loaded semi-automatic firearm in the student’s waistband.
At least one other student has been arrested at Patterson High School in the past two years for having a weapon. A teenager was charged as an adult last year in the stabbing of another student.
